RockTape, Graston, Hypervolt

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization

In its most basic form, the use of an instrument during treatment helps the practitioner accomplish their task in less time and with less pressure. When we use our hands and limbs during treatment, it's a soft surface on a soft surface. The instrument being a hard surface, the practitioner won't need to press as hard to get the same depth or get more depth with the same pressure compared to no instrument being used. Also, with the shape and thickness of the instruments, we can get a more specific point of contact with the client instead of using our limbs. The use of instruments will never replace the therapist's limbs, especially with the feel and palpation of the client's areas to needed to be worked, but it is a great supplement that can sometimes do more with less time.

I got certified in RockTape's version of IASTM at the beginning of massage school, then got certified in Graston Technique at the end of it. Since I already had the RockTape instruments, I didn't feel the need to purchase Graston's. The body doesn't feel the difference between the two brands of instruments; for that reason, I am not considered a Graston Technique Specialist.

The use of the Hyperice Hypervolt, or any massage gun, has an extra benefit from previously mentioned brands that the vibrating sensation gives a stimulating affect at short intervals to locations of the body and becomes relaxing when held at the same spot for more extended periods. It's an excellent tool for self-care in between sessions with your professional health provider.
